Dear Valued Subscribers,

This is an important notice regarding the recent Federal Budget announcements and temporary suspension of the Saskatchewan Advantage Grant for Education Savings (SAGES).

The Federal Government released its 2017 budget on March 22, 2017: "Building A Strong Middle Class". It proposes changes that impact Registered Education Savings Plan (RESPs) including launching a pilot project aimed at exploring ways to increase the awareness of the Canada Learning Bond program and reducing the barriers to accessing this grant. Shortly after the release of the 2017 Federal budget, the Government of Saskatchewan announced its own changes which are aimed at continuing to support students while controlling costs.

As a result, the Saskatchewan Advantage Grant for Education Savings (SAGES) will be suspended effective January 1, 2018. This means SAGES will not be paid on contributions made to an RESP after December 31, 2017. Federal grants are still available to parents who save for their children's post-secondary education through RESPs. SAGES contributions may resume when the province's financial situation improves.

We are advising you of this change to ensure our subscribers and beneficiaries in Saskatchewan apply for and receive the SAGES before the end of the year. We will continue to administer the SAGES as usual and will keep you updated on this subject as we receive further updates from the Government of Saskatchewan or from Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC).
